Assignment 1: My View of the Ontological Dimension of Nursing

Abstract

I have always viewed nursing as being a caring profession which is well-respected and forever changing along with the world’s population needs. Being a nurse to me is offering the best of myself through current evidence-based practises, maintaining a worldwide cultural perspective, challenging my inner biases. Most importantly I stand to advocate for my clients and our profession. I see nursing as a professional family that provides service with a promise to uphold the highest degree of truth, trust, confidentiality and personalized care to the whole person. This is accomplished while providing support for the clients’ healing on their road to recovery. This paper will aim to interpret nursing, my ontological stance and how it is influenced by the metaparadigms of nursing. My personal philosophy is that nursing is in a constant state of change and a constant change of self.

Assignment 2: How Can I Think Differently? Nursing Theories Applied to Practice Scenario

Abstract

Our nursing practice has evolved because of contributions theorists’ have provided. It allows nurses to explore the profession from varying perspectives all while searching for their own personal philosophy. Our practice has been built upon their theories and allowed for best standards which promote the best possible care, while advocating and not compromising a clients’ safety and well-being (CNO, 2020). This paper will introduce Philip J. Barker and Poppy Buchanan-Barker’s Contemporary theory of “The Tidal Model” with Dorothea Orem’s classic theory of “Self-Care”. The Tidal Model focuses on helping a person make their own voyage of discovery by reclaiming “their voice” (Barker, 2005). The self-Care Theory is outlined as a set of requirements that is essential for the client to meet in order to maintain and achieve their health care goals (Renpenning, 2003).

Assignment 3: What Do I Think I Know Now? My New Personal Philosophy of Nursing

Abstract

This paper will address what I learned during these past few months by dissecting what nursing means to me, how I’m using the knowledge acquired and how it can be applied towards my career and as a Scholar. My perspectives will be reflected throughout by addressing the metaparadigm of nursing, including Fawcett’s (1984) nursing, person, environment, and health and the addition of Schim’s (2007) social justice. Included in context within the body of this writing will be my personal philosophy of nursing.
